More About Sam Cornett

With over four decades in the music business, Kentucky native songwriter Sam Cornett crafts the kind of hard-hitting, unfiltered country music that modern radio has left behind. Raised by his mother, talented musician Faye Mounce, he penned his first song at just nine years old. Shaped by outlaws like Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, and Loretta Lynn, as well as modern icons like Jamey Johnson and Kid Rock, Sam's work blends classic storytelling with raw, modern grit.

A veteran ghostwriter for over 25 years with hundreds of songs under his belt, he has collaborated with Nashville stalwarts including John Scott (Jamey Johnson), Ralph Stanley II, and Kristi Stanley. Beyond the studio, Sam spent years traveling the globe alongside his closest friend, American Indian Movement (AIM) co-founder Dennis Banks. Most recently, he co-wrote and recorded the upcoming theme song "Here Comes the Dog" with his close friend, Duane "Dog the Bounty Hunter" Chapman.

His latest album distills 30 years of real life into 15 uncompromising tracks—built on truth, tradition, and pure country soul.

Roots and Foundations

For over 40 years, music hasn't just been a career for Kentucky songwriter Sam Cornett—it has been a lifestyle. His musical lineage traces back to his mother, Faye Mounce, a gifted musician for over four decades who introduced him to the craft early on. Together, they wrote his very first song when he was only nine years old. Through his mother’s close connection to the Lynn family, Sam was exposed early on to the authentic sounds of Loretta Lynn, laying a bedrock of classic country storytelling.

His formative influences form a roll call of traditional country and Southern rock giants: Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams Jr., Merle Haggard, Randy Travis, Keith Whitley, Gary Stewart, and Lynyrd Skynyrd—a legacy bolstered by years of close friendship with the late Jimmie Van Zant. As his craft evolved, modern outlaws like Kid Rock, Jamey Johnson, Colt Ford, Wayne Mills, and Randy Houser added new edges to his sound.

The Songwriter’s Journey

For more than 25 years, Sam operated in the shadows as an industry ghostwriter. Behind closed doors, he penned hundreds of tracks for notable artists while remaining uncredited—building a legendary catalog known inside Nashville circles.

His collaborative catalog includes hundreds of songs co-written with John Scott of Jamey Johnson’s team, along with tracks written alongside bluegrass stalwarts Ralph Stanley II and Kristi Stanley. Among his proudest personal achievements is his work with his brother and close friend, Duane "Dog the Bounty Hunter" Chapman, with whom he co-wrote the high-octane theme song, "Here Comes the Dog" (releasing soon across all major streaming platforms).

Beyond the Music: The AIM Legacy

Parallel to his music career, Sam served for many years within the American Indian Movement (AIM). His closest friend and mentor was AIM co-founder Dennis Banks. Together, the two traveled the globe side by side, advocating for Native rights and connecting with people worldwide. Banks was, and remains, a guiding light through life's darkest moments—an influence that resonates deeply throughout Sam's songs.

The New Album: Real Country Music

In an era dominated by polished pop-country radio, Sam Cornett brings the focus back to grit, honesty, and hard-earned experience. He doesn't need exaggerated stories or industry gloss to prove his place in music history.

This upcoming release captures 30 years of real life across 15 powerful tracks. It is hard-hitting, authentic country music straight from the chest of a man who lived every single line.

Note from Sam Cornett

"I’m just an average man from Kentucky with a lifetime of real, hard-hitting country music on my chest and tongue, and I want to share it with everyone.

What you hear on the radio today isn't what I consider Country Music. I’ve spent more than 25 years as a ghostwriter—writing hundreds of songs, working with Nashville legends, and living a hell of a life alongside people like my late best friend, Dennis Banks.

I don't need to jazz up my image or tell bullshit stories to sell records. This album is 30 years of my life condensed into 15 songs. If you miss real country music, give it a listen. You won't be disappointed."
